What is Your Favorite Pistol?

WireShots recently asked a couple of gun owners what their favorite pistol was. We had many people give us different and interesting answers from custom pistols to the ones that in their hands at the time. Every gun owner has hers or his favorite. You have the occasional fan boys who are nothing and won’t shoot any other pistol. There’s the revolver owners that say there gun will never stop working. And then you have your 1911 owners who love the fact that they have a firearm that actually feels like a gun. Some gun owners just love guns and don’t care what it is as long as it goes bang.

The usual types of brand fanatics are Glock and Smith & Wesson. These two manufacturers have been battling out against each other on many occasions. Glock are Austrian made and Smith & Wessons are made in the U.S. Glock have that unique trigger that has a crisp trigger pull with an exceptional break. Smith & Wessons have the half-moon trigger with a huge amount of take up in the trigger pull with a short reset, but finding the reset is the tricky part. The Smith & Wesson has a higher capacity magazine then the Glock. No matter which one you decide to get they both are excellent firearms. WireShots suggest giving them both a try to seeing which one you like. You could end up liking both and having two of the best firearms.

The revolver owners will always tell you that every time they pull the trigger that cylinder will work and rotate. Sometimes this isn’t true, Taurus revolvers are notorious for having a non consistent trigger pull as well as not having a good fitted cylinder. Ruger revolvers are a unique group of revolvers having a smooth consistent trigger pull and a push button cylinder release. Ruger LCR are the most popular out of this manufacturing company to be concealed carried. Smith&Wessons J Frame has been around for quite sometime now and more than likely never be replaced. Theres not much to complain about with the J Frames, they’re to simple and have been through trial and error. Revolvers have 5 to 6 rounds in the cylinder and in a gun fight, its best to have more than 6 when more rounds could be needed.

1911’s are the steel framed breed that has their place in competitions as well as being concealed carried. 1911’s have a crisp trigger pull and short reset. 1911’s have tight tolerances and are very picky on what ammo they love to shoot. Parts can be swapped out with other parts, but it comes with a price. In order to have the best 1911, you’re talking about paying some serious cash. Wilson Combat makes the best 1911’s because They are designed to last for decades. They are made to perfection, so much that it takes them quite a while to get one custom-made, but they are worth the wait. If you’re not wanting to pay for a higher end 1911, you can always get a Rock Island. Though they’ve had a bad reputation in the past it seems like they have stepped up their game in producing some descent quality pistols.

No matter what type of category you fall into or you don’t have a category, in the end they are firearms. The best way of finding out what firearm you like is to send lots of led down range with different pistols and figuring out what pistol you like.  Firearms are used for protection, as a hobby for competing, or just collecting firearms are a thing of beauty. Firearms are for those great Americans who appreciate the 2nd Amendment. Go out to your nearest range and enjoy the freedom you have to shoot these amazing machines.

SIG SAUER® P320™ Revolutionizes the Polymer-Frame Service Pistol

NEWINGTON, N.H. (January 14, 2014) — SIG SAUER introduces the P320™, a polymer-framed service pistol designed in conjunction with law enforcement to meet the needs of today’s armed professionals.

Taking into account the concerns of military and police training officers, the P320 provides an enhanced level of safety not found on most modern service pistols. Unlike its competitors, the P320 does not require the operator to pull the trigger nor use a special tool to take down the firearm for cleaning or routine maintenance.

“One of the main points that kept coming up with trainers was the risk of accidental discharge inherent in today’s striker fired service pistols,” said Jeff Creamer, SIG SAUER Director of Product Management. “Unless they require a special takedown tool, other pistols require the operator to pull the trigger before disassembly. Classic SIG SAUER pistols have never needed this, and we made sure the P320 didn’t either.”

Featuring a modular grip frame and removable fire control assembly pioneered by SIG SAUER, the P320 is customizable to any hand size or duty requirement. The P320 can quickly be converted from a full-size to a carry pistol. Slide and barrel conversions allow the P320 to change calibers and barrel lengths as well. The P320 will be immediately available in 9mm, .40 and .357SIG, with .45ACP coming later in 2014

With a partially pretensioned striker, the P320 has a short, crisp trigger pull with a quick, pronounced reset right out of the box. The P320 comes in two trigger variants: a standard trigger and a tabbed safety trigger for specific law enforcement clients. Featuring SIG SAUER’s internal safety system, the P320 has no external safety or decocking lever to snag or hang up on the draw. A thumb safety version will be available for law enforcement needs. SIGLITE night sights come standard, and the reversible magazine release makes the P320 completely ambidextrous.

Whatever the requirement, patrol duty, competition, time at the shooting range or concealed carry, the P320 brings SIG SAUER’s legendary reliability, durability and quality to this polymer-framed, striker-fired duty pistol.

O.F. Mossberg & Sons announced last year that the company had partnered with Duck Commander for a line of firearms geared especially towards waterfowl hunting. Perhaps better known for their appearances on A&E’s Duck Dynasty, the Robertson family has built a hunting merchandise empire around their brand, Duck Commander. The combination of the Robertsons’ fan base and Mossberg, a well-respected manufactuer of shotguns and rifles, meant that many eagerly anticipated the release of the new firearm line.

As seen on the Mossberg website, the Duck Commander series includes eight shotguns—even a version of the ever popular Mossberg 500—as well as two rifles and a pistol chambered in .22 LR. The firearms come standard in Max-5 camo by Realtree, one of the latest waterfowl patterns for 2014, and are branded with the Duck Commander logo. The guns also come with a commemorative American flag bandana, styled after the one commonly worn by Willie Robertson on Duck Dynasty.

The shotguns in the series are:

  • Mossberg 500
  • Mossberg 535 ATS
  • Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag
  • Mossberg FLEX 500
  • Mossberg 835 Ulti-Mag with Recoil Reduction
  • Mossberg 930
  • Mossberg 935 Magnum
  • Mossberg Int’l SA20
  • Mossberg 500 Super Bantam

While shotguns are standard fare for duck hunting, surprises came in the form of the .22 pistol and rifles. The Mossberg 715P Pistol carries a capacity of 26 rounds and weighs about 3.5 pounds. At $447 retail, the pistol comes with a full-length top-rail, red dot sight, short vented quad-rail forend, and an A2-style muzzle brake. The much larger Mossberg International 715T rifle carries the same capacity and sports a top rail, a 16.25-inch barrel, adjustable sights, and weighs 5.5 pounds. It will retail for $509. Lastly, Mossberg is offering a Duck Commander version of their International 702 Plinkster, which comes with a free-floated barrel, adjustable sights, and a scope-ready receiver. The four-pound Plinkster has a capacity of 11 rounds and is priced at $274.

Mossberg’s Duck Commander series is expected to hit retail shelves soon, and you can check out all the details of each gun here. You can also watch the teaser for the series below:

National Rifle Association

The National Rifle Association has recently sold its one millionth copy of the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting. Known as the Basic Pistol handbook, the guide is a comprehensive resource on responsible pistol use and is the foundation of NRA’s popular Basic Pistol and FIRST Steps Pistol Orientation courses.
First published in July 2009, the Basic Pistol handbook was written with the intent of becoming an at-home reference guide for gun owners. Topics included in the guide are basic firearm safety, storage options, range rules, target scoring and basic fundamentals such as shooting positions, grip and aiming. The guide can be purchased both individually and as part of a NRA Instructor-led course from the NRA’s Program Materials Center.
“This milestone reflects the growing national interest in firearms and the National Rifle Association’s place as the United States’ top provider of firearms training,” said Bill Poole, Managing Director of NRA’s Education and Training Division. “I would like to thank our more than 116,000 NRA Certified Instructors for their dedication to providing our citizens the means to responsibly enjoy their Second Amendment rights.”
